What's Up, Doc?

*New Research on Health Literacy from AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association).

* 2 in 3 Americans aren't confident they “understood [...] their doctor’s recommendations or what they discussed."

* 1 in 4 patients didn’t understand any of the recommendations, while 1 in 3 couldn't remember them.

* 1 in 5 didn’t feel comfortable asking their doctors questions, and 1 in 5 left appointments without getting clear answers.

* 1 in 10 didn’t have the opportunity to ask questions to their doctor.

* 1 in 2 turned to the internet for answers before asking their doctor: 4 in 5 found internet information “credible”.

* 1 in 2 patients don’t review medical records or access them.

* 4 in 5 support an “all in one” portal for records, recommendations, conditions, and test results; this can boost confidence and understanding for patients.
